QUEST will participate in projects around the city as well as tour some special sites, as we relate our experiences to the theme "Living our Faith." This is also a great opportunity to build friendships at QUEST! Deadline to sign up is April 29. Cost is $80. Please contact Dara or Frank to sign up.

BASIC Mission Trip Changes & Donations for SOL requested

Due to the increased political protests and subsequent violence in Nicaragua over the past few weeks, the senior high youth group (known as BASIC) will not travel to Nicaragua for their mission trip this summer.  Instead, the youth will take a mission trip to Jamaica with an organization that Idlewild Youth Ministry has used in the past.

Youth Ministry is very sad that we will not be able to travel to Nicaragua and help Seeds of Learning (SOL) build their classroom.  This would have been Idlewild’s 7th trip with SOL, dating back to 2001.  Seeds of Learning of course understands why we had to cancel the trip.  However, they still need to build the classroom and are now having to do it without our youth's assistance.

We feel that because of our long history with SOL, it is important that we continue to support them in any way that we can.  The Idlewild Session has approved a short term campaign to help raise some funds for the organization to help cover the cost of the classroom.  If you are interested in helping, please do so by visiting the following link and making a donation directly to Seeds of Learning at

Winter-Spring 2018

QUEST - Junior High (Grades 6-8)

Questioning, Understanding, Exploring, Sharing Together

This ministry is for junior high members of Idlewild Presbyterian Church, as well as friends and visitors. QUEST meets four times a week: Sunday morning, Sunday night, Wednesday night, and Thursday night at More Than a Meal.

Sunday church school classes deal with issues facing young Christians today. It is taught by Dara Bigger and David Simpson.  Class is at 9:40 each Sunday morning. QUEST meets at 28 S. Evergreen, 1st Floor.

BASIC - Senior High (Grades 9-12)

Brothers And Sisters In Christ

This ministry is for senior high members, friends, and visitors of Idlewild Presbyterian Church. During the school year BASIC youth meet together four times a week: Sunday morning, Sunday night, Thursday night, and Wednesday for Bible study in small groups.

Sunday morning church school class meets at 28 S. Evergreen, 1st Floor. On Thursday nights the youth assist with More Than A Meal, a community gathering for anyone in need of a free meal. BASIC members help serve the meal, then have the opportunity to sit and get to know our guests.

BASIC Trips and Retreats

There are four annual BASIC trips: A Presbytery-wide Senior High Retreat in the spring, the Montreat Youth Conference, a summer mission trip, and fall NaCoMe All-Church Camp.

During the Presbytery-wide Retreat, Idlewild youth gather with senior high school students from across the Presbytery to talk and learn about topics facing them today.

Every four years BASIC members travel together to Montreat, North Carolina for a week at the Montreat Youth Conference. Senior high students from across the country gather to hear speakers from around the world. On other years, BASIC members travel overseas or within the United States as a mission team working on various service projects.

NaCoMe All-Church Camp is a favorite fall highlight. Church members travel to NaCoMe Conference Center for a weekend of dancing, recreation, worship, fellowship nd good food. BASIC youth enjoy the weekend together in the luxurious BASIC cabin.

The summer mission trips are often life-changing experiences. Groups have been to El Salvador, Guatemala and New Mexico. Mission work, as when a group helped build a school in Guatemala, is combined with learning and fun.
