SPECIAL EVENTS

Special Events at Idlewild

Sacred Space

Beginning August 10, to provide a sacred space for our congregation, the sanctuary is open on a limited schedule. Register for a 30 minute session in the sanctuary. COVID protocol must be followed. Contact Marsha Enlow with questions.

A Service for Steve Montgomery

Pastor Steve Montgomery’s funeral service will be held on Friday, August 7th, at 2:00 p.m. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the worship is a private family service. The service will be available on Livestream beginning with the Prelude at 1:50.

Congregants are invited to gather in the Idlewild parking lot for the playing of the carillon which will begin at 1:30 p.m. to give thanks to God for Steve’s life and to bear witness to the resurrection. We know that death is not the end of life, but only the sign of an impending resurrection. We ask you to please respect the COVID-19 protocol and to stay in your car. Doing so, you may stay and watch the service on your personal device or return home at 1:50 and watch the worship service from home. We grieve that we cannot be together in the sanctuary, nor outside of our parked cars in the parking lot.

17:50 Prayers

In August, we invite you to pray daily at 17:50 (5:50 p.m.). The prayer prompts for July were written by Michal Kennell. Michal is a sophomore at St John’s College. She is interning at Idlewild this summer as she discerns a call to ministry. The prompts are available online and will be posted on social media daily.

Young Adult Scavenger Hunt

In light of COVID-19, we are gathering virtually in lieu of our annual Fall Kick-Off Party. So please join us for an evening of fellowship and scavenging on Saturday, August 29 at 7:00 pm! With your registration for the Scavenger Hunt, you will also receive a Kick-Off Care Package delivered to your door prior to the event.

Bring your faces and your beverage of choice to the screen! Register in Realm.

A 10-Week Invitation

Ahmaud Arbery.
Breonna Taylor.
George Floyd.

People of color whose names are on the tips of our tongues after dying at the hands of public safety officers and vigilantes in recent weeks.
As grief consumes and cities pulse with pain and passion, the Church is called to respond, reflecting the life and ministry of Jesus Christ: repenting, accompanying, challenging, bearing, and building.

In the fall, we will begin an intentional study on anti-racism, doing the hard and slow work of looking inward. This summer, you are invited to prepare by joining our listen/watch/read campaign, exposing yourself to different voices through different mediums as they guide us through a conversations about implicit bias, racial prejudice, systemic racism and white privilege/supremacy. The list of resources is available online and reminders will be posted to social media.

Join the group in Realm to participate in discussion around each week’s offerings.

In June, we invite you to pray daily at 17:50 (5:50 p.m.). The prayer prompts for June were written by Jessica Joshi. Jessica serves as an elder on the Session and is a senior at St. Mary’s School. The prompts are available online and will be posted on social media daily.
