Athletic Ministry

Spring and Fall Soccer are great ways to get your kids outside to enjoy the fastest growing sport in the midsouth! We hold all of our practices at the Kroc Center at the corner of East Parkway and Central on their soccer fields. Each team practices once a week between 5:30pm and 6:30pm on Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday. We offer boys and girls teams for ages 6-12 with coaches that are excited to teach your children the sport. Games are on Saturdays with times varying. We have all home games at the Kroc Center, and away games can be at different churches or venues around the midtown area. We would love to have your family sign up for soccer with us! The Idlewild soccer community is a great one to be a part of.

Spring and Fall Mini Strikers is a great way to introduce your children to the sport of soccer starting at age 4 and 5. This 6 week coed program is always on Saturday mornings at the Kroc Center at the corner of East Parkway and Central on their soccer fields. We start with 2 weeks of clinic style practices led by our coaches, followed by 4 weeks of games. The practices will start at 9am for the first two weeks, with the games starting at either 9am or 10am depending on the team’s schedule. Mini Strikers has been a great introduction for our older soccer teams. We hope your little one falls in love with soccer by being a Mini Striker!

Basketball has been the biggest part of Idlewild’s recreation ministry for a long time! We offer boys and girls teams for ages 6-17 with coaches that are excited to teach your children the fundamentals of the game. Our teams get one practice time a week. All practices are held in our newly renovated gym on Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday nights at either 5:30pm or 6:45pm. Games are on Saturdays with times varying. We have all home games here at the church, and away games can be at different churches or venues around the midtown area. Saturdays in our gym have always been a great atmosphere. We would love for your family to be a part of it!

Mini Jammers is the best way to introduce your children to the sport of basketball starting at age 4 and 5. This 7 week coed program is always on Saturday mornings in our newly renovated gym. We start with 2 weeks of clinic style practices led by our coaches, followed by 2 more weeks of team practices and ending with 3 weeks of games. All practices and games will start at 9am. Mini Jammers has always been a great way to teach your little ones the way organized basketball is supposed to look. We hope you join us next January for the start of our next season!

Mini Batters is a T-ball clinic that we started to get our 4 and 5 year olds introduced to the sport of baseball. This 4 week program runs on Saturday morning in the summer. We will be playing on the baseball diamond at Steam Academy/Middle College High School off of Central across the street from CBU. Our team of coaches will teach your children the fundamentals of baseball along with your help. And to top it off, our season always ends with a fun filled parents vs. kids game! We hope that you and your child join us for our next session!

Visiting Groups

Idlewild Presbyterian Church is pleased to make space within the church facility available to visiting groups whose principles and objectives are compatible with those of Idlewild. Use of facility for Idlewild events and by Idlewild groups and members will have scheduling priority over all other organizations.

Idlewild has two rooms and a gym that can be used for overnight lodging. There are two private bathrooms, two shower areas, a kitchen that can only be used for dinner, and an ice machine. Sleeping rooms and showers will be separate for males and females. Visiting group members will be sleeping on the floor in the designated rooms and should bring air mattresses and sleeping bags.

Use of the facilities for overnight lodging will be limited to groups of 40 or fewer persons. A ratio of 1:5 adults for junior high youth and 1:7 adults for senior high youth will be required for groups with participants who are younger than 18 years of age.

On arrival, visiting groups will receive a checklist of expectations regarding care of the rooms and church facility during the group’s visit. Daily cleanup of the areas used by the group, as well as a thorough final cleaning, will be required.

Fees for use of Idlewild facilities by visiting groups will be determined by size of the group. The appropriate fee must be paid at least 30 days prior to arrival.

The fee schedule is as follows:

  • Fewer than 20 persons, $30 per night
  • 20 to 30 persons, $40 per night
  • 31 to 40 persons, $50 per night

Idlewild requires that visiting groups provide a certificate of insurance with coverage limits appropriate for use of the facilities. Based upon the extent of use, Idlewild may require that your group place Idlewild Presbyterian Church on your policy as a named insured for the duration of your visit.

Each member of a Visiting Group will also be asked to sign a Covenant regarding personal conduct that will help ensure his or her safety and well-being as well as demonstrate respect for the church property.

No smoking, drinking alcohol or use of illegal drugs is allowed on the church property. The organization or individual visiting will be held liable for any property broken or stolen in their designated area while present.

Members of visiting groups are welcomed and encouraged to participate in worship, study, and service activities occurring at Idlewild during their visit, and to engage with Idlewild members whenever possible.

If you have questions or would like additional information, please contact Jacob Pierce at 901-72604681 ext. 225 or jpierce@idlewildchurch.org.

The reservation form must be completed and fees paid no later than 30 days before arrival.

The expected cleaning procedures help keep Idlewild beautiful.
