COVID-19 Updates

In November's Session meeting (11/17), an updated mask policy was adopted per CAT recommendations. Following recent Shelby County Health Department guidelines, masks are now optional for fully vaccinated individuals on campus. For those who are not fully vaccinated, masks continue to be required.

The newest update from the COVID Advisory Team (CAT).
  • Masks are required for all un-vaccinated individuals inside the church.
  • Masks are optional for fully vaccinated individuals on campus.
  • Signups are no longer necessary for worship, nursery, or Worship and Wonder.
  • Meetings and events that are in-person will be advertised as so.
Without exception, the church has been exceedingly compliant with all protocols, so we have every reason to believe that those who are unvaccinated will continue to wear masks. For this reason and because we are a community built on trust, proof of vaccination status will not be required.
We will continue…
  • Sunday worship service is live at 11:00 on Livestream and on the radio on 96.1 FM. Livestream apps are available for mobile devices and Roku. Services are also archived on Livestream.
  • More Than A Meal on Thursdays at 5:30 p.m. is serving to-go meals only.
  • The campus is not closed. Groups, meetings, and events are being held both in-person and virtually.

I am grateful for the leadership of our Session and the faithfulness of the COVID Advisory Team in helping to move our church forward. As we make these changes, we want to invite you back to Idlewild. Come and be a part of what God is doing in our church. Come and be a part of the incarnate community that Jesus modeled for us. And as you return, we encourage you to continue to pray for our church as we can discern how God is calling us to serve faithfully in this season. Know that our prayers abide with you today and always.

- The Reverend David J. Powers

Outreach Opportunities

  • Food Bank Distribution We are continuing with Food Bank distribution on the second and fourth Wednesday mornings of the month. Every precaution for safety is taken to minimize exposure to guests and other volunteers: guests will not leave their vehicles, gloves will be worn, volunteers will work at least six feet apart, and no one will enter the church building. If you feel called to serve in this way, please sign up online.
  • Beginning in December, More Than A Meal will be in-doors. We will have a worship service at 4 PM in the sanctuary with a meal following.  Volunteers are welcome to sign up online.
  • The Compassion Collection is low right now, and we expect an influx of calls for assistance. Because MLGW has made the decision to discontinue cut-offs in this pandemic season, we will not assist with MLGW bills at this time, but we will assist with housing needs where we’re able. Donate online.
