Young Adults make up nearly a third of the membership at Idlewild Presbyterian Church. From worship to study, contemplating scripture to serving our community, there's a lot here to draw you closer to God!  

 

 


Fall Theology on Tap

Young Adult Women Fall Retreat - Nov 2-4

Friday-Sunday, November 2-4
Andi Hill's home at Pickwick Lake 

Young Adult Women’s retreat will be November 2–4 at Pickwick Lake. Cost is $50 ($40 if you register by October 10). Registration deadline is October 31.  It's a relaxing, rewarding weekend at the lake. Everyone will meet at Idlewild Friday afternoon at 5:15, and ride there together on the church bus. It takes about two-half hours to get there. On Sunday we will leave no later than 11:00 a.m. and get back to the church between 1:00-1:30. Bring a Bible. Bring comfy clothes, including something warm in case it gets chilly and clothes you can move in for yoga.

UKirk Ministries

Students at Rhodes College and the University of Memphis are served by UKirk, a Presbytery campus program. Elizabeth Doolin oversees UKirk, which offers weekly gatherings and other opportunities. Meals are needed from September through November.

Montreat College Conference

Are you a college student interested in attending the 2019 Montreat College Conference? Join the UKirk Memphis group from Rhodes College and the University of Memphis as we travel to Montreat, North Carolina to gather with college students and faith leaders from around the country. This year’s conference is focused on compassionate community: “The 2019 College Conference at Montreat will respond to God’s call for compassion in a broken world. As a community of faith we will discern God’s compassionate nature and how God is calling us to act with compassion in our communities, campuses, churches, and families.”

Fellowship Opportunities 

YOUNG ADULTS BIBLE STUDY

Young adults meet the first Wednesday of each month for Bible study and spiritual formation, in a relaxed environment for fellowship and reflection. Location and times vary. Please contact Elizabeth H. Doolin, edoolin@idlewildchurch.org.

DINNER GROUPS

Both young adult specific and inter-generational, meet either monthly or quarterly for food and fun (one even has childcare available!). Some meet in-home but most are in restaurants. Great way for new folks to meet some people! Contact Elizabeth at edoolin@idlewildchurch.org if you are interested.

YOUNG ADULT WOMEN

An informal group for young women (late 20s-early 30s). The group meets for dinner the 3rd Tuesday of each month. Location and times vary. Contact Elizabeth H. Doolin, edoolin@idlewildchurch.org.

Serving God and Your Community

Idlewild has multiple ways to serve God and your community. Serving with More Than A Meal on Thursday evenings and the Adopt-A-School programs are especially suited for young adults. MORE THAN A MEAL (MTAM)

A typical Thursday evening at MTAM begins when guests join members in setting up tables and making coffee.Members can choose to sit and talk with guests or to serve the meals. Every Thursday at 5:30 p.m. (A worship service for guests and workers is held at 5:00 in the Trippeer Chapel, too.)

 

TUTORING, READING & MENTORING 

Our Adopt-A-School program serves children and teachers at a neighborhood public school, Idlewild Elementary. Members tutor students in reading and math, mentor those who need a little more direction, or read to kindergarten classes. Contact Kathy James at 405-5332 or kjames@barton.edu.
