The Reverend Rebekah Abel Lamar
Associate Pastor for Christian Formation
|Rebekah came to our church in August 2015. She says that her position here excites her “because it combines two of my deep passions: faith formation and worship. I am especially interested in finding ways to help adults connect to ministries in which they can meet God and find opportunities for growth and transformation.”
Before coming to Memphis, she served as Director of Christian Education at Decatur Presbyterian in the Atlanta area. She was also working on a master’s of divinity at Columbia Theological Seminary.
Rebekah grew up in a Presbyterian church in southwest Virginia. She graduated from Presbyterian College summa cum laude, majoring in religion, Christian education and English, then completed her master’s in Christian education at Union Presbyterian Seminary.
Rebekah’s husband, Ashley
Lamar, is a school teacher, and well as a Bible study leader. They have three
children: Sam (6), Ann Thomas (4), and James (22 months).

Even as a visitor before joining our staff, Rebekah said, “Even from my short time at Idlewild, it is apparent that you are a congregation with a rich history and exciting future. I appreciated the strong commitment to worship that I experienced and the obvious interest in faithful Christian formation and witness.”
