RECENT LOSSES IN THE CHURCH FAMILY

Blessed are those who die in the Lord. 

Mary Jane Gentry, 77, died Thursday, November 16, 2017. Her memorial service will be Saturday, November 25, at 2:00 p.m. in the sanctuary, with a reception to follow. Mary Jane has been a faithful member since 1964. She was active in Presbyterian Women, a longtime member of the Rebekah Circle,  and served on the Congregational Care Committee. She is survived by her two daughters, Janie Bates and Grace Harwood, five grandchildren, and many more loved ones. Please remember her family in prayer.

The Reverend Dr. Milton Perry Brown, 89, died Friday, November 10, 2017. Arrangements will be posted here when they are finalized. Please remember in prayer Milton's wife, Anne, son, George Brown, and daughter, Marie Brown English.  

John Kimbrough Johnson Jr., 75, died November 7, 2017. Kim was a dedicated member of our faith community. Among his many gifts, he was a church trustee, ordained elder and clerk of session, and served with many committee and volunteer projects. His service to God and the church touched many lives. Kim's father was Idlewild's assistant minister from 1955 to 1966. Kim is survived by  his wife, Judy; son Thomas and his wife, Gina, and their son, Nathan; son Albert and his wife, Trinh, and and their children, Levi and Beklin, and daughter, Maria Bui. Winfred H. Sharp, 92, died Wednesday, November 1, 2017 in Pope, Mississippi. There will not be a memorial service. Win had been a church member since 1953, along with his wife Sally (who died in 2003). He was a member of the LeMaster Class and served as an usher for the 8:30 worship service. He may be most remembered as a cheerful presence at More Than A Meal (MTAM). He was involved in MTAM from its beginning in 2000 until 2012, when he moved to Mississippi to be near family. Affectionately known as the “water boy,” he was an inspiration to many as a faithful servant quietly doing his job.  His family asks that memorials go to Idlewild’s More Than A Meal ministry.

Margaret Wilson, died Tuesday, October 24, 2017. She was 101 years of age. Margaret was a vital part of our church family her entire life. She was a Lifetime Member of Presbyterian Women, having served as moderator and participated in circles, most recently the Lydia Circle,  for many years. She delivered Monday morning flowers until she became unable to drive, and was a member of the LeMaster Sunday school class. Her service to God and to the church has been a blessing. She is preceded in death by her husband, Dr. John M. Wilson, and a son, John Wilson. She is survived by one son, James, and a host of family and friends. 

Dr. Robert Franklin Adams, 79, died Wednesday, September 20, 2017. Dr. Adams had been a church member since 1987. He leaves behind his three siblings, Dr. William Adams, Ann Adams, and Sue Pittman, his six children, eleven grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. Please remember all his loved ones in prayer. William Dodds Roberds, 91, died Sunday, September 10, 2017. Bill is survived by his wife, Sally Roberds, two daughters, Sissy Carpenter (Doug) and Ellen Roberds (Jared Bingham), one son, Bill Roberds, Jr., five grandchildren, and many more loved ones. Please remember his family in prayer.

Fred H. Terry, 77, died Wednesday, September 6, 2017.  Fred came to Idlewild in 2006, and was a faithful presence in the 8:30 Sunday service. He was especially involved in the More Than A Meal ministry. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy "Happy" Jones, a son, Michael Terry, a daughter, Laura Ann Terry, and many more friends and family. Please remember them in prayer at this time.  Blessed are those who die in the Lord.

Ruth A. Moore, 95, died June 10, 2017.  Ruth had been active in a Presbyterian Women’s circle until she became unable to attend. She and her husband, John William Moore, Sr. (deceased 2000), joined the church in 1957. She is survived by her children, Anna Corey (an Idlewild member), John Moore, Jr., and David Moore, and many more loved ones. Please remember them in prayer.

Eugene C. Reynolds, 95, died Friday, May 26, 2017. Gene was a Presbyterian elder and deacon, and a faithful member since 1956. He is survived by his wife, Jean, daughter, Nancy Thompson (Jeff), son, Bob Reynolds (Sharon), five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and many more loved ones. Please remember them in your prayers.

Margaret "Peggy" Smith Latham, 82, died Wednesday, May 24, 2017. Peggy was a longtime Idlewild members. She is survived by her children and their families: Madeleine (John) Elmer and their children James (Sunny) and Charles; Peggy (Don) and children Kate (Jamie) Hershey and granddaughters Morgan and Ava, Donald (Michelle) and Stuart; Marion McDonald and her children David, Nathalie and Virginia; and Anne Martin and her children Swayne and Everett. Please remember these and all her loved ones in prayer. Blessed are those who die in the Lord.

Howard Dain Robinson, 59, died Monday, May 15, 2017, after a long illness. Visitation will be Thursday, May 18, at 11:30 a.m. at Canale Funeral Home, with a service to follow at 1:00 p.m. Howard is survived by his father, Luther Robinson, and his sister, Leigh Little-Beyer, both part of our church family. Please remember all his family and friends during this time.

Dana Davis Burkett, 47, died Wednesday, April 19, 2017.  Dana and her husband, Adam, joined our church family in 2013. During her seven year illness, they attended worship with their children, Ellen (9) and Hayes (8), as often as possible. A fond memory is their family picture taken in the Idlewild garth each Easter. Dana was last able to attend worship Christmas Eve at the Children's Service. We are thankful that Adam, Ellen and Hayes are surrounded by caring family and friends. Please remember them all in prayer at this difficult time.
