RECENT LOSSES IN THE CHURCH FAMILY

Blessed are those who die in the Lord. 

Ruth A. Moore, 95, died June 10, 2017. Visitation will be Saturday, June 17, 10:30–11:30 a.m., with the service to follow immediately at 11:30, at Memorial Park (5668 Poplar Ave., Memphis). Ruth had been active in a Presbyterian Women’s circle until she became unable to attend. She and her husband, John William Moore, Sr. (deceased 2000), joined the church in 1957. She is survived by her children, Anna Corey (an Idlewild member), John Moore, Jr., and David Moore, and many more loved ones. Please remember them in prayer.

Eugene C. Reynolds, 95, died Friday, May 26, 2017. Gene was a Presbyterian elder and deacon, and a faithful member since 1956. He is survived by his wife, Jean, daughter, Nancy Thompson (Jeff), son, Bob Reynolds (Sharon), five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and many more loved ones. Please remember them in your prayers.

Margaret "Peggy" Smith Latham, 82, died Wednesday, May 24, 2017. Peggy was a longtime Idlewild members. She is survived by her children and their families: Madeleine (John) Elmer and their children James (Sunny) and Charles; Peggy (Don) and children Kate (Jamie) Hershey and granddaughters Morgan and Ava, Donald (Michelle) and Stuart; Marion McDonald and her children David, Nathalie and Virginia; and Anne Martin and her children Swayne and Everett. Please remember these and all her loved ones in prayer. Blessed are those who die in the Lord.

Howard Dain Robinson, 59, died Monday, May 15, 2017, after a long illness. Visitation will be Thursday, May 18, at 11:30 a.m. at Canale Funeral Home, with a service to follow at 1:00 p.m. Howard is survived by his father, Luther Robinson, and his sister, Leigh Little-Beyer, both part of our church family. Please remember all his family and friends during this time.

Dana Davis Burkett, 47, died Wednesday, April 19, 2017.  Dana and her husband, Adam, joined our church family in 2013. During her seven year illness, they attended worship with their children, Ellen (9) and Hayes (8), as often as possible. A fond memory is their family picture taken in the Idlewild garth each Easter. Dana was last able to attend worship Christmas Eve at the Children's Service. We are thankful that Adam, Ellen and Hayes are surrounded by caring family and friends. Please remember them all in prayer at this difficult time.

Robert J. Schroeder, 89, died Monday, March 20, 2017. Bob was a trustee emeritus, an ordained elder and a deacon. As a faithful member of Idlewild for 56 years, he gave of his time and knowledge generously and served in many ministries throughout the years. He is survived by his wife Shirley, two daughters, Victoria Schroeder and Valerie Kershaw, and many friends and loved ones.  

Carl L. Sebelius Jr., 76, died Monday, March 13, 2017. Carl joined Idlewild in 1971. He was a professor at the UT School of Dentistry and had recently been named alumni of the year. He is survived by his wife, Judy, two daughters, Ann Hale and Carolyn Kirk, four grandchildren, and a host of friends. 

Louise Shrader Cannon, 97, died Thursday, February 23, 2017. Louise had been an Idlewild member since 1950. She was a Life Member of Presbyterian Women, had served as PW moderator, and was in the Rebekah before she became unable to attend church. She is preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Bland W. Cannon,  and her son, Bland W. Cannon Jr. She is survived by four sons, John Shrader Cannon, Henry Nelson Cannon, Charles Benson Cannon, and Andrew Martin Cannon, 14 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and their families. 

Betty Pechak Stewart, 76, died Wednesday, February 1, 2017. Betty was especially active in Presbyterian Women and led the Abigail Circle for a number of years. She leaves behind her husband, George “Sonny” Stewart, and her children, Betty Brooks, Hope Brooks (Debbie), Eva Brooks, and two grandchildren. Dr. Suzanne Satterfield, 61, died Sunday, January 15, 2017. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 19, at Idlewild Presbyterian Church, with a reception to follow. Suzy had served on the Global Missions Committee for seven years and as a deacon of the church. She is survived by her husband, John Pickens, and their children. Please remember them and all her loved ones in prayer.

Gary Albertine, 89, died Tuesday, January 10, 2017. A memorial service will be held at 12:00 noon on Friday, January 13, at Independent Presbyterian Church. He is survived by his wife, Janice, and daughter, Leslie Goodwin. Please remember all his loved ones in prayer.

Marilyn Curle, 83, died November 24, 2016. Marilyn was part of the Presbyterian Women Trezevant Circle. She is survived by her husband, Ray Curle,  their two children, Jennifer Fain (Jack) and Alan Curle (Andrew London), and two grandchildren. Please remember all her loved ones in prayer. 

Jan Garrison White, 63, died Tuesday, December 20, 2016. The memorial service celebrating Jan’s life will be Sunday, January 15, at 2:00 p.m. in the Sanctuary, with a reception following in the T.K. Young Room. Jan and her husband, Barry, came to Idlewild in 1982. She had been active with the choir and music programs before becoming unable to attend church. She practiced medicine as Dr. Jan Garrison. Please remember Barry, their son Taylor, and all her friends and family in prayer. 

Matthew Presley, 34, died Sunday, December 11, 2016. Matt was baptized, nurtured, and confirmed here at Idlewild. He is survived by his wife, Chaela, their three-year-old son, Beckett, his parents, Paul and Barbara, and his brother, Will. Please lift up his family and friends in your prayers. 

Shirley Sorrelle, 82, died November 3, 2016. Shirley joined Idlewild in 1971 and was a longtime member of the Presbyterian Women's Lydia Circle. She had not been able to attend church for some time. She is preceded in death by her husband, Harris McLean Sorrelle. She is survived by her three children, Paul, Jane, and Susan.  

Gary Swaddle, husband  of Susan Jane Elliot, died Friday, September 23, 2016, in England. Gary was 63. Please remember Susan and all their family and friends in prayer.
